Based on each photograph depicting the child doing different activities such as eating, coloring, and playing inside/outside, I believe that the theme you are trying to portray is the life/ daily activities of a toddler. You were able to capture a lot of emotions in the child’s face throughout the photographs. The addition of the various facial expressions with the activities helps add more context to each of the pictures. This visual aspect is captured the best in the third picture. The emotion of playfulness is not only exemplified in the child’s expression but also the location of the photo being under a chair. Many of the photographs which show the child expressing the most emotions are when she is looking directly into the camera. I think the photo sequence could be improved by trying to capture the child’s emotion without the direct eye to camera connection. The images are unified by placing the child towards the middle of the frame. Even if the child is shown more towards one side of the frame, she still uses her body to direct the viewer’s attention toward the middle of the frame. I think the choice of clothing also draws the sequences together. The top is usually white with limited color and this is consistent for each image. I would say the uses of light also help unify the images. The viewer is able to see the passage of time through the various displays of natural and artificial light. The point of views in each photo create a visual variety. You were able expand your use of point of views really well. There are several different angles to the images. And I think this works perfectly because you have to work with a subject a lot closer to the ground than you are. I think the third picture truly exemplifies a great point of view for the figure. The viewer now enters the child’s world and is able to see how the child perceives the objects around them due to this low to the ground point of view. There are many images of her playing outside in the bright daylight. I think these photos show repetitiveness in their subject and could be scaled down to just a couple of photographs showing her outside playing. I think another way the photographs could be improved would be to frame the images so there are not large visual distractions in the background. An example of this would be in the seventh through ninth photos. The car that is in the background visually distract from the scene because it is a large object with a very outstanding color to the rest of the scene. I think reframing these shots so there is just the grass or pavement in the background will help draw more attention to the subject. The last photo does not fit in as well into the sequence of photos due to its prominent focus being the child’s face. For the final sequence I would recommend keeping the third image. I think this photograph shares a lot of great visual elements and also helps to explain your concept the best. Given the activities and the light captured throughout the day, I think it would be best to sequence the images using the hours of the day and sunlight. By doing this you are able to show the progression of the child’s life throughout the day.
